Search Tips

How to Find Someone

Not in BOP?

If someone was in county jail and shows "released" but you can't find them — check ICE detainee locator first. ICE takes custody directly from county jails and they don't always appear in federal BOP records.

ICE Search Tips

ICE locator requires full legal name and country of birth. Use the exact name on their ID. If no results, call ERO Houston at (713) 961-0974 and ask directly — they can look by name and date of birth.

County Transfer

People often get transferred between facilities. If you can't find them in one county, check neighboring counties and VINELink. VINELink covers most Texas county jails and sends notifications when status changes.

Need Legal Help?

If someone is detained by ICE, contact RAICES Texas immediately at raicestexas.org or call them. They provide free immigration legal services in South Texas and the RGV.

Federal vs State

Federal crimes (drug trafficking, immigration, federal charges) → BOP. State crimes (assault, DWI, state charges) → TDCJ. Pre-trial (not convicted yet) → county jail or VINELink.
